20 THE ENGLISH FLAG

The English Flag

Also known as the flag of Saint George.

George is always depicted as a guardian knight in shining armour and is well known as a Dragon Slayer, either by sword on foot, or by lance on horseback.

I am perhaps one of very few students of history who could make these connections because of my being native born English, the first son of a Royal Artillery Dunkirk veteran, and my 33 years of living and working in South Wales under a very different national identity and the flag of the fiery red dragon.

Wales used to fly the flag of saint David, but in 1959 adopted the now well-known flag of the fiery red dragon. To understand the seriousness of that, please read Revelation chapter 12. This fiery red dragon seeks to devour the Christ child as soon as it is born! And I can tell you from personal experience, living under that kind of attitude is of absolutely no benefit to the well-being of humanity!

So, please take notice.

In the recent months of 2025, there has been a renewed interest in flying the flag. Especially the English flag, the red cross of Saint George. It has been the English flag since the late AD 40’s and it holds the underlying reason why England has been considered a Christian country. I will now tell you why.

George was not English, but he was a full-blown saint in the same sense as Christian believers are referred to in both the Old and New Testaments of the bible. He was of Middle Eastern origin and is most famous as a dragon slayer, meaning that he had apostolic authority much the same as Daniel and the three boys had in Babylon, and Joseph had in Egypt.

“By faith they actually overcame kingdoms” – (that’s from Hebrews chapter 11).

This first-century apostolic Christianity, with all its power and authority, first came to Britain in AD 34, only a year after the resurrection, via a certain Jewish elder, Joseph of Arimathea (the guy that claimed the body of Jesus from Pontius Pilate). Joseph was one of the seventy Elders of Israel, a secret believer and a member of the household of king David, as were Mary and Joseph, her husband. The New religion or ‘Way’ as it was called was so powerful and effective that the local king of Glamorgan was converted, and later, in the late AD 40’s the king of England too.

This conversion of the English king happened during the attempted Roman occupation of Britain which was fiercely and successfully resisted in England, Wales, and Scotland. As a recognition of England’s valiant resistance to this Roman occupation Joseph awarded the king of England the red and white banner of Saint George. It symbolises the life-saving success of the exercise of apostolic authority over the dragon-like pagan darkness of the Roman Empire.

This evidence has come to light through archaeological finds in stone, now stored in the British Museum in London, and the recent translation of ancient Welsh records (the Brut Tysylio).

This apostolic spiritual authority is an essential ingredient of the kingdom of God and demonstrates the enormous difference between a mere earthly life and a heavenly one lived and empowered by the Holy Spirit. The Lord confirms this kingdom authority with miracles, signs and wonders following. It is only the Holy Spirit that can restore a man, or his nation, to the oneness with God that Adam first knew in the Garden of Eden.

“Man was made in the image of God and given dominion over every living thing.”

That is a great privilege!

It has come to my notice only this year (2025) that here in Rugby, we have not celebrated Saint George’s Day properly since 2000, the year of the Covid Lockdown. We used to do it properly with a knight on horseback slaying a dragon in the town centre. And in that short time of five years Rugby has shot up to have the second highest burglary rate in the whole of Britain! Second only to Powys in Wales!

Yes, you heard that correctly.

Rugby, a fairly small town near the very heart of Royal and Christian England, is now second only in burglary crime to an area in Wales, over which is now flown the flag of the fiery red dragon.

And it hasn’t stop there!

A twelve-year-old girl from Bilton School has been excluded from a Culture Day for wearing a Union Jack dress and preparing a short speech on being British, as instructed by her teachers.

Even more recently, Rugby is planning to celebrate Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights, but not Saint George’s Day! A day that once proudly celebrated the victory of Saint George. And to neglect that kind of authority as an essential part of our National Security is to open ourselves to all kinds of evil and criminal lawlessness.

Have you ever wondered, Whatever is The World coming to?

Let me tell you.

The Apostolic Authority that saints like Saint George had will return to Earth shortly and will rule and reign with Christ Jesus from Jerusalem for a thousand years! The Law of the LORD and the Word of the LORD will go out from Jerusalem to all the nations until all His unbelieving enemies are put down.

And that law will never change or go away.

“Beware of an evil heart of unbelief!”

So, in conclusion:

Celebrating Saint George’s Day has become a matter of national security against loss the of our precious national identity and the even more costly Apostolic Authority that was bestowed on the kings of England and Wales and was first recorded in the genuine history of the first century church. Both in Holy Scripture and in the ancient Welsh records.

“All His saints have this heritage and honour!” (Psalm 149)

Please don’t let this warning of Sound Doctrine die, because you will not hear this from Buckingham Palace, Westminster, Lambeth Palace, the recent Dame Sarah Mullally of the Church of England, or even from the Vatican City itself!

“He is God Almighty!

Therefore, Walk before Him and be blameless.”
